Missions Ministry

Our mission at Woods Church is to share the word of Christ and put Christ's love into action by engaging the congregation to serve and advocate for those who are marginalized and in need.

Woods Church has over twenty Mission Partners, which are nonprofit organizations rooted both locally and around the world. These organizations carry out good works that align with our goals and values.

How we work towards our mission:

We believe in servant culture.

It is important for us to foster a culture that cares, serves, and seeks to understand the needs and experiences of the groups we serve.

We are a missions-based church.

A portion of our yearly budget is dedicated to supporting our Mission Partners. We support truly transformative work including healing and mentorship programs, social enterprises, healthcare, and much more.

We are rooted in scripture.

Through our denomination, PC(USA), we are a Matthew 25 Congregation. We aim to help multiply this loving commitment to radical and fearless discipleship by partnering with mid councils and congregations to help them embrace these three focuses:

  • Building congregational vitality
  • Dismantling structural racism
  • Eradicating systemic poverty
Cultivating small opportunities that have a big impact.

At Woods Church, we work to cultivate easy ways to meaningfully support our mission partners. There are opportunities for every person to share their time and talents. We host events throughout the year that the collective community can participate in, which benefit our Mission Partners.

Our Mission Partners and Active Programs:

Sponsors and volunteers fill backpacks every Friday throughout the school year to ensure that students are provided healthy food on the weekends. On the first Friday of each month, sponsors and volunteers will get to know the students during a lunch party. Prior to Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, grocery store gift cards are mailed to the students’ parents/guardians so the families can enjoy holiday meals. Each Backpack Buddies student will also receive a Target gift card for his or her birthday. At the end of each school year, the 8th grade students in the program receive Under Armour backpacks filled with school supplies to prepare them for high school.

Good News Jail & Prison Ministry

Good News seeks to place Christian chaplains in jails and prisons to minister to the spiritual needs of inmates and staff. They believe the most effective tool for ministering to the needs of inmates and staff is the daily presence of a chaplain. The chaplain serves as pastor, counselor, mentor and friend to those who are incarcerated and the staff who guard and protect them. Good News seeks to have an impact on incarceration rates, recidivism rates, and subsequently families and communities affected by incarceration.

Volunteers can assist in bible study, as mentors, and re-entry advocates.
