What we believe

Mission Statement

Welcoming all to grow and serve in Christ.

Vision Statement

To be a voice of faith transforming lives and society through Jesus Christ.

We seek to be a church that participates in God’s mission for the transformation of creation and humanity by proclaiming to all people the good news of God’s love, offering to all people the grace of God at the baptismal font and communion table, and calling all people to discipleship in Christ. We sincerely seek to glorify and enjoy God now and forever.

Our church is a member of the Presbyterian Church (USA).

Presbyterians believe in the Trinity - the sovereignty of God the Creator, Jesus Christ, God's incarnation, and in the Holy Spirit, God's presence in the world and in the believer.

Woods is a Matthew 25 Congregation, which means we have a commitment to build congregational vitality, dismantle structural racism, and eradicate systemic poverty.

Woods is an Earth Care Congregation, with a commitment to earth care in the areas of worship, education, facilities, and outreach.

Our Denomination

We are a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) congregation, which means we are part of the largest Presbyterian denomination in America and one of its 10,000 active congregations.

Our Membership and Congregation

Woods has a large membership (over 1500), active programs for all ages, excellent Sunday worship and educational offerings, and a strong commitment to mission locally, nationally and globally.

Our Commitment to the Future

Woods recognizes that we do not have all the answers, but we sincerely strive to ask the right questions.

Woods opens its doors widely to those who need a refuge for spiritual healing, a resource for faith expression and growth, and a companion of hope as we navigate the challenges of our unique life journeys.

What does it mean to be deeply rooted?

We are deeply rooted in our community of faith, both locally and around the world. With 10 active ministries, Woods Church is home to many opportunities for lifelong service and learning. Woods is also an Earth Care Congregation and a Matthew 25 Congregation through PC(USA).

Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church was founded in 1912. Since then, through various efforts, we have expanded to develop the Woods Child Development Center, the Woods Counseling and Care Center, Sunrise Senior Living Center, and the Severna Park Community Center.

Come and see who we are, in whom we trust, and where we are heading by God’s grace!
